It was announced on November 3rd that the 111th Grey Cup had been awarded to Vancouver!

Vancouver will play host to the Grey Cup for a 17th time, the second-highest total behind only Toronto, while BC Place stages the grand football event for a 10th time and first since 2014.

We know it’s one of the biggest parties in Canada so we thought we’d look back at the history of the Grey Cup in Vancouver.

  • The 43rd Grey Cup was played on November 26, 1955, before 39,417 football fans at Empire Stadium. Edmonton beat Montreal 34-19.
  • 36,567 packed Empire Stadium on November 29, 1958 for the 46th Grey Cup and saw Winnipeg beat Hamilton 35-28.
  • Ottawa beat Edmonton 16-6 on November 26, 1960 during the 48th annual Grey Cup at Empire Stadium.
  • The 51st Grey Cup was held on November 30, 1963 and saw Hamilton defeat the home town Lions 21-10.
  • November 26, 1966 saw the Roughriders beat the Rough Riders (Sask vs Ottawa) at Empire Stadium.
  • November 28, 1971 was a rain-soaked afternoon that saw Toronto beat Calgary before 34,404 fans.
  • The 62nd Grey Cup was held on November 24, 1974 as Montreal beat Toronto 20-7.
  • The 71st Grey Cup was the first inside BC Place Stadium in 1983 and saw Toronto edge out the hometown Lions 18-17.
  • The 74th Grey Cup was help November 30th, 1986 when Hamilton beat Edmonton 39-15.
  • The 75th Grey Cup in 1987 inside BC Place Stadium saw Edmonton beat Toronto 38-36.
  • The Winnipeg Blue Bombers defeated the Edmonton Eskimos 50-11 on November 25th, 1980 during the 78th Grey Cup.
  • The 82nd Grey Cup held on November 27th, 1994 saw the hometown BC Lions beat Baltimore thanks to a last second field goal by Lui Passaglia 26-23. Tom Cochrane was the halftime show.
  • The 87th Grey Cup on November 28th, 1999 saw Hamilton defeat Calgary 32-21.
  • The 93rd Grey Cup on November 27, 2005 featured Edmonton defeat Montreal 38-35. The Black Eyed Peas were the halftime show.
  • The 99th Grey Cup was held November 27th, 2011 and the hometown Lions defeated Winnipeg 34-23. Nickelback were the halftime show.
  • The 102nd Grey Cup was held November 30, 2014. Calgary beat Hamilton 20-16. Imagine Dragons played halftime.
