'That Thing You Do', 20 Years Later!

1996, we were first introduced to ‘The Wonders’ – a fictional band trying to make it big in the 60s, riding on the success of their one-hit-wonder.

Starring Tom Everett Scott (Guy, Drummer), Johnathon Schaech (Jimmy, lead vocalist), Steve Zahn (Lenny, lead guitarist), Ethan Embry (bassist), Liv Tyler (Faye or Jimmy’s girlfriend, costume designer), and last, but not least, Tom Hanks (Mr. White, band manager).

‘That Thing You Do’ was Tom Hanks’ first crack at directing a movie and the cast had nothing but great things to say about his directorial debut. According to ew.com, Tom Everett Scott, who played Guy the Dummer said “There’s stuff that he told me then that I have taken with me through my entire career…It was an acting class. It was a clinic, and I got to be his pupil. The value of that education is priceless.”

It’s been 20 years since the release of ‘That Thing You Do’, but I’d still watch it on a rainy day and can sing all the words to their “one-hit-wonder”!
