Ready for some good news that will make you smile?

Dave Grohl has a long list of accomplishments in his 51 years. He was the drummer for Nirvana, front man for one of the most successful rock groups of all-time the Foo Fighters, has led countless “Supergroups”, he’s performed at charity events all over the world, has his own throne, has appeared in movies TV shows as both an actor and a as a writer, and even has a street named after him. (Kinda makes us feel … you know … inadequate). So why are we talking about Dave Grohl taking part in an epic drum battle with a 10 year old girl?

IMAGINE DAVE GROHL WRITING A SONG ABOUT YOU! But we’ll get to that …

So how did this start and why is Dave involved?

Because the girl is Nandi Bushell. If you don’t know her name, let us fill you in. Nandi Bushell is a 10 year old drum prodigy from the UK, who garnered attention from posting videos online of her playing along (perfectly) to some of rock’s greatest anthems (including playing guitar, bass & drums to Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’ & getting a shout out from Kirk Hammett). She earned so much attention that she’s appeared on The Ellen Show as well as jammed out with Lenny Kravitz on stage.

Now history is full of famous rivalries … Hulk Hogan vs. Andre The Giant, Coke vs. Pepsi & Papa Smurf vs. Gargamel, Ali vs. Frazier … now we can add Nandi vs. Grohl.

Back to Nandi though. Her favourite band is Nirvana and her favourite drummer is Dave Grohl. So it makes sense that earlier this year, she beat the boredom of self-quarantine by challenging Dave Grohl to a drum off in a video of her playing along to Foo Fighters ‘Everlong’.

Dave Grohl quickly responded to Nandi’s challenge with a song from Them Crooked Vultures (featuring John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin on bass).

Nandi was quickly up for the challenge and learned the song in a couple of days and sent out the following reply…

Not one to be outdone by anybody, Dave Grohl accepted defeat in the first round and upped the ante in round two by writing Nandi a song! How cool would it be to have anyone write you a song let alone Dave Grohl.

How will Nandi respond? How far will this go? She’s accomplished more in the last 10 years than we have so we tip our cap to Nandi. We can’t wait to see how this plays out, in the meantime, we’ll be over here picking battles of all sorts with children all over the world … now we just need to find something we’re good at. Anyway, this epic drum battle has left us wishing if everything could ever feel this real forever.

Let us know what you think of Nandi & this epic drum battle on Facebook.

October 1, 2020 UPDATE:

Nandi’s response to Dave Grohl has been completed. Nandi wrote and performed every instrument on this track affectionately called “Rock & Grohl”. Great work Nandi!! We’re fans.
