Have you ever loved a song? Like really loved it? It moved you, hit you right in the feels?… Then you played it out!

You listened to that one so many times that the love you once felt kind of died off.

And then BOOM the feeling somehow came back!

JACK Music Boss Corbet calls this the Boomerang Song Effect!

Here are 6 songs that have this effect on me:

1 – Toto, Africa
It’s an amazing song. So catchy, so fun, so memory inspiring! Then I played it 5000 times and it became just another tune. Much later on, I was watching an episode of Family Guy and Toto’s “Africa” came on….BOOMERANG, I was in love again!

2 – Billy Joel, Piano Man
I remember hearing that song as a kid. What an amazing story! I ran out and bought the Piano Man CD and, as I’m sure you know, it’s a great record filled with amazing songs like ‘Captain Jack”, “The Ballad of Billy the Kid” and “Ain’t No Crime”. Eventually, “Piano Man” kind of slipped back into being just another album cut for me. I actually found myself skipping it. Years later, working at JACK, it came on the radio and that same feeling flooded back! So good!!

3- Spirit Of The West, Home for a Rest
When I was working in Fort McMurray many years ago I spent a lot of time with a group of guys that were born and raised in Vancouver. Me being originally from Ontario, I loved those guys and their passion for the ocean and the mountains. When the booze started to flow the boys would crank that song! You couldn’t help but get into it! But after a few too many keg parties it became just another part of the night. Fast forward to working at JACK, those memories come back, and I just smile and think of how time has changed. Most of those boys all have families and the keg days are long gone. But the song still stirs the emotions.

4- The Cure, In Between Days
This is the song that started my obsession with The Cure. I heard this song and knew five seconds in that this was my band and always would be! I love that band like I love my kids! And every once in a while when I listen this song…I remember…This is why! I FREAKIN’ LOVE THIS BAND!

5 – Prince, Purple Rain
This is an interesting one because upon hearing this song the feelings hit me like a ton of bricks! I was amazed by how the Purple One could shred rock guitars in a somewhat pop type of song! Prince instantly rose to the list of musicians that I would follow and love. Then for some reason my love for Prince almost faded because his music caused me to explore more greats like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and James Brown. Fast forward 20 years, I’m with my wife at a Hootie & The Blowfish concert and they covered Purple Rain and we were both stunned! I remember looking at my wife and we both said, “Purple Rain – YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING!!!” Got home and instantly put on the record and fell in love again!

6 – Daft Punk, Get Lucky

I used to work at a radio station that played Top 40 music. During my time at that station Daft Punk released Random Access Memories (which is one of the best albums of all time, if you ask me). It’s mind-blowing from start to finish. That being said, the station I was on played the song so much. Then, after my show, I would get in my car and listen the rest of the album! So I killed the song in my own ears! But it’s SOOOOOO GOOD!! We play it from time to time on JACK, and man when It comes on I crank it!!

So there are 6 boomerang effect tunes for me! How about you?
