Last year, Elton John held an international competition with YouTube called ‘Elton John: The Cut’. It called on undiscovered filmmakers to create original music videos for one of three chosen songs from the ’70s, Rocket Man, Bennie and the Jets, and Tiny Dancer.

The competition was started to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the songwriting partnership between Elton John and Bernie Taupin, and to help give the artists some context, they described the inspiration behind each song.

Here are the final versions of each official music video!

Tiny Dancer: “reflects on life in Los Angeles from a dozen different people, all unfolding behind the wheel of their cars.”

Bennie and the Jets: “a futuristic video of Elton’s hit song, which features breathtaking choreography and striking sci-fi fashion.”

Rocket Man: “Iranian filmmaker and refugee Majid Adin reimagines “Rocket Man” to tell a whole new story of adventure, loneliness and hope.”

It just goes to show how individualistically music is interpreted. Did you think the visual representation for any of those songs would look like that??

Probably not.

But they’re still beautiful videos, and now make up the official music videos for some of Elton John’s classic tunes!
