Hulk Hogan vs. Macho Man. Darth Vader vs. Luke Skywalker. David Lee Roth vs. Sammy Hagar. These are the types of debates that can rage for days here at JACK HQ, and we need your help to end the great Van Halen debate once and for all.

If you’re a fan of hard rock legends Van Halen, you definitely have an opinion on this. Both dudes are legendary frontmen, and they even briefly united for the co-headlining “Sans Halen” Tour in 2002 (without any of the other members of Van Halen). Let’s look at the Tale of the Tape.

David Lee Roth

Born: October 10, 1954 in Bloomington, Indiana

Years Active: 1972-1985, 2007-present

Notable Songs: “Jump”, “Hot For Teacher”, “(Oh) Pretty Woman”, “Dance the Night Away”,  “Runnin’ with the Devil”

Nickname: “Diamond Dave”

Drink of Choice: Jack Daniel’s Whiskey

Fun Fact: Dave was a New York City paramedic for a time during his hiatus from Van Halen and was not recognized once (he had cut his hair short and no longer wore spandex pants while at work)

Sammy Hagar

Born: October 13, 1947 in Salinas, California

Years Active: 1985-1996, 2003-2005

Fun Fact: Sammy owned a bicycle shop called Sausalito Cyclery in the ’80s and it was once rated the number one independent bike store in California
