The Academy Awards are upon us and while everyone is going crazy for the movies, we wanted to take you through our 6 favourite songs that won an Oscar.

Isaac Hayes – “Theme from Shaft”

Winner “Best Original Song” at 44th Academy Awards (1972)

They say this song is a bad mother…  SHUT YOUR MOUTH!

Berlin – “Take My Breath Away”

Winner “Best Original Song” at 59th Academy Awards (1987)

“Danger Zone” is a better song for when you feel the need… the need for SPEED! But this slower number is also an ’80s classic.

Elton John – “Can You Feel The Love Tonight”

Winner “Best Original Song” at 67th Academy Awards (1995)

Hard not to think about Simba when you hear this song, right?

Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes – “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life”

Winner “Best Original Song” at 60th Academy Awards (1988)

If this song doesn’t make you think of school dances and Patrick Swayze, we don’t know what will.

Adele – “Skyfall”

Winner “Best Original Song” at 85th Academy Awards (2012)

Fun Fact: This was the first Bond theme to win an Oscar and always gives us goosebumps.

Prince – “Purple Rain”

Winner “Best Original Song Score” at 57th Academy Awards (1985)

The Purple One’s signature hit. Enough said.
