I posted this question on my personal Facebook page: “For fun, what’s the best area code in BC?”

Some responses from family and friends looked like this:

“It’s 604″, followed by “250” and “778 is for posers.”
“It will always be 604!”
“250 NORTHLIFE”

I put the question out there because our current BC area codes 236, 250, 604, and 778 are expected to run out by May 2020. This means BC is getting a new area code next year.

Welcome to the 672 y’all! The new 672 area code will work all over the province from PG to the Island and everywhere in between.

Area codes are a funny thing. I’ve found that some people are very passionate about their particular area code and others not so much.

I remember when I first moved to BC I had a 604 number and, for some strange reason, in my head I wanted a 778 number. Not sure why, but a tiny part of me actually coveted the 778 code. Then I moved to Ontario and to be completely honest I never even learned my phone number. I just didn’t pay it any mind. I couldn’t have cared less. Then I moved back to the Lower Mainland and BOOM I was handed the 778 and, I kid you not, I wanted the 604 again. I’m weird! I know!

So with the addition of a new area code in our great province, do you care?

And is it okay for me to say, “778 represent!!!” — Like Eminem says when he refers to the Detroit Area code of 313

Tweet me some love for your fav area code @kennyOnJACK

Oh ya,

LOVE YOUR FACE!!!
