I was having a talk with a friend of mine yesterday. Full disclosure: I don’t have many friends and this is probably the reason why. He explained to me how he had an awesome time with his mom on Mother’s Day. They had a lovely dinner and he even posted a pic on Facebook of his mom with a beautiful smile on her face and a pile of Carl’s Jr. in front of her! Yep, he took his mom to Carl’s Jr. for Mother’s Day.

For the record, Carl’s Jr. is not her favorite fast food joint, in fact, she has never been there. Sure she wanted to try it one day, which is cool, but is it something you do on Mother’s Day?

Now I know that moms give some BS line saying how it is all about spending time with you, even though she spent 18 years raising and feeding you and couldn’t wait to turn your room into a storage closet when you moved out. She doesn’t want gifts, even though if you get her something, she lights up like when your creepy uncle Rick says he can’t make it to Christmas this year. She just wants to feel special. Let me tell you Carl’s Jr. doesn’t make her feel special.

She smiles and says it’s fine because she loves you. She says she doesn’t want anything because she is a good person. If she had a choice between Carl’s Jr. and not seeing her son, she is going to take Carl’s Jr. So it is up to you as a child to give her the right option. Not Arby’s. Try Vij’s. Not Wendy’s. Maybe Tojo’s, Hawksworth or Cafe Medina. Heck even Boston Pizza with a nice card and a small thoughtful gift is better than Carl’s fricken Jr.

Taking your mom to Carl’s Jr. is like taking your wife to Duffin’s Doughnut’s for your anniversary.

Am I wrong?
