Sib Hashian was not the first pick when Boston founder Tom Scholz needed a new drummer in 1975. He was called in by the record label to replace Jim Masdea.

He played a big role in the drumming for Boston’s “Third Stage” album but was then replaced by Jim Masdea, the same guy Sib was called in to replace in 1975.

How long he was in the band is irrelevant, he was one heck of a good drummer and played on some of the best Boston songs. When you hear the open on “More Than a Feeling” that guitar picking, then the drums kick in. Classic.

The accompaniment with the lead guitar on “Piece of Mind” is perfect. If you don’t air drum at the end of the chorus while Brad Delp belts out “Take a look ahead”, we can’t be friends.

Whatever the song, whatever the group he worked with. He did some fantastic stuff and he will be remembered as a great musician.

Sib died while playing a gig on a cruise ship in the middle of his set.

He had one son, Adam, and two daughters, songwriter, Aja Hashian and singer-songwriter Lauren Hashian. Lauren has a daughter with Dwayne Johnson.

Thanks for everything Sib.

RIP
