6 Spooky Halloween Songs 96.9 JACK-FM Vancouver

Halloween is just around the corner, and while I know many of you will be tuning into our COMMERCIAL-FREE Halloween House Party this Saturday night from 8pm-Midnight (wink wink), I wanted to share 6 songs that you can add to your own Halloween soundtrack.

6. Talking Heads – Psycho Killer

This song makes it into the list based on chorus alone! Plus it’s a great way to brush up on your French. Qu’est-ce que c’est?

5. Creedance Clearwater Revival – I Put A Spell On You

While Screamin’ Jay Hawkins original was named one of Rolling Stone magazine’s 500 greatest songs of all-time, we prefer the CCR version, for our Halloween party needs. It’s a little more upbeat and they played the song during their set at Woodstock too!

PS Annie Lennox’s version is pretty cool too.

4. Oingo Boingo – Dead Man’s Party

A Halloween party staple since 1986, Oingo Boingo actually performed the song in the Rodney Dangerfield movie “Back To School” that came out that same year.

3. Cliff Richard – Devil Woman

This was the comeback single for English early Rock ‘n Roll heartthrob Cliff Richard and was also his highest charting song in the US, reaching 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1976.

2. Echo and the Bunnymen – People are Strange

While The Doors version is also a classic Halloween version, I included Echo and the Bunnymen’s version purely due to its connection to the 1987 cult classic movie, The Lost Boys.

Fun fact: This ’80s classic was actually produced by Ray Manzarek, The Doors keyboard player.

1. Redbone – Witch Queen of New Orleans

How can a Halloween party song list not include this funky rock song from 1971 that tells the story of 19th century voodoo queen Marie Laveau?

If these 6 songs just aren’t enough or you just really want to take your Halloween party to the next level, make sure you Listen Live from 8pm-Midnight on Saturday, October 29th for our Commercial-Free Halloween House Party mix.
